USPF belles book last semis ticket in CESAFI volleyball

CEBU, Philippines - The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Lady Panthers drubbed the University of Cebu (UC) in straight sets to book the last semifinal ticket in women's volleyball event of the 13th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc (CESAFI) season at their own turf the other night.

 The Lady Panthers bested UC, 25-16, 25-17, 25-18, thereby avoiding a triple tie with defending champion University of San Carlos and UC.

After clinching last year's crown, USC had an unceremonious exit this time winning only one of its five assignments, while UC bowed out with a pitiful 0-5 record.

The other three semifinalists in the women’s division are last year’s runner-up Southwestern University with a perfect 5-0 slate, the University of San Jose-Recoletos with a 3-2 card and darkhorse Cebu Doctors' University with a 4-1 win-loss card.

On the other hand, the secondary girls will have its final elimination round matches today, with SWU facing USJ-R.

SWU stayed in contention after escaping with a 25-13, 26-28, 25-12 win over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

Two games in the men's bracket are also up today featuring SWU versus CDU and USJ-R against USPF. (FREEMAN)
