Bullvets trounces DBUFC in Don Bosco Cup
CEBU, Philippines - Bullvets '94 breathe fire from start to finish on the way to scorch DBUFC, 89-54, in the continuing action of the Bosconian Basketball Club's Don Bosco Cup last Sunday at the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) gym in Brgy. Punta Princesa, this city.
In the other games, Ron Mabanto exploded with 25 points as Batch '98 upended Batch 2009, 53-45, while Plas escaped with a 56-54 win over Batch '95.
After a 29-all standoff at halftime, Batch '98 rode on a steady offensive in the final half to fluster Batch 2009 at the final buzzer.
Plas, on the other hand, bucked off a sluggish start, then turned to a second-quarter breakaway to pin down the hard-fighting Batch '95.
Plas trailed by nine points after the first 10 minutes of play, 10-19, but rallied back with finesse in the second canto to take a hairline 28-27 lead at halftime. Plas and Batch '95 then figured in an air-tight duel the rest of the way, but Plas proved to be the more determined squad as it came out with a marginal two-point victory.
A total of 10 teams are taking part in the tournament organized by the Bosconian Basketball Club under the leadership of its president Engr. Jonathan Reyes. The rest of the BBC officers are Archt. Duane Dale Anino (vice president), Atty. Kenneth Kern Sesante (secretary), Omar Nacorda (treasurer), and Ian Castrodes (auditor).
The participating squads will play in a single round robin format, with the top four teams per bracket advancing into the quarterfinals with twice-to-beat advantage over the lower-ranked qualifiers.
The winners will then proceed into the crossover semis wherein the survivors will slug it out for the championship in a best-of-three series. The losers will fight for third place in a winner-take-all affair.—EBV (FREEMAN)
