Streaking Paypa topbills ALA-Cobra boxing in Balamban
CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano featherweight contender Jimmy ‘Popeye’ Paypa (13-2, 4KOs) will face another acid test as he battles Jason Redondo (7-1, 6KOs) of Ormoc City in the main event of ALA Promotions and Cobra Energy Drink ‘Tunay na Lakas Boxing’ on September 25 at the Balamban Sports Complex in Balamban, Cebu.
The 20-year-old Paypa is one of the hottest prospects from the famed ALA Boxing Gym, winning his last 11 fights capped by lopsided unanimous decision victory against Cristian Abila last July 21 at the Bays Center in Bacolod City.
Paypa is also included in ALA Gym’s roster of aspiring world title contenders that will be featured in the ‘IDOL’, the country's newest television boxing series.
Redondo, for his part, poses a lot of danger for Paypa as he seeks to score another knockout victory. Redondo is fresh from a second round demolition of Elmer Cove last March 9 at the Panphil B. Frasco Memorial Sports Complex in Liloan, Cebu.
In the supporting bout, journeyman and ring comedian Jojo ‘Flash’ Entor will take on a young opponent in Nelson Sandal.
Two Japanese fighters in Takaoki Naoma and Yosuke Miyagawa will also strut their wares against separate foes in the slambang event. Naoma will go up against Leo Santisima, while Miyagawa will slug it out with Crispin Parba.
The rest of the card features Kim Galon vs. Marlou Talili and Raul Yu vs. Hector Rojoca. (FREEMAN)
