Telstra-Teletech, ASI and SSI notch first wins in CSCC E-League
CEBU, Philippines - The Telstra-Teletech Titans, ASI Hardbacks (formerly Xlibris) and SSI Warriors finally barge into the win column of the 9th CSCC E-League for Basketball 2013 last Saturday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Telstra-Teletech snapped out of its four-game losing streak following an 83-51 rout of the Talleco Bandits, ASI ended its three-game slump with a close 56-52 win over the Kyocera Frontiers, while SSI recovered from back-to-back defeats at the expense of the Teleperformance Lions, 73-66.
Clifford Amarado exploded with 31 points on top of six rebounds, three blocks and two assists, while Edsel Capillanes tossed in 17 points, five steals and two assists for Telstra-Teletech, who battered Talleco right after the opening buzzer to take an early 26-11 lead.
Telstra-Teletech sustained its momentum in the middle quarters before closing the match with a 25-15 bang to ice the 32-point blowout.
Mark Matidios was the lone double-digit scorer with 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks for Talleco, which fell to 1-2.
ASI, on the other hand, suffered a huge collapse after a sizzling 18-5 start, but regained its offensive in the final quarter to escape with a four-point victory. Martin Ian de Guzman paced ASI with 20 points and three assists followed by Christian Rez with 13 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
Ariel Ramonito Edera finished with 15 points and four steals, Eliot Emerson Uy added 10 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals for Kyocera, which suffered its third loss in as many starts.
In the main match of a featured triple-header, SSI was in complete command after posting a nine-point advantage at halftime, 35-26. Lawrence Daven Agas topscored for SSI with 26 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds, while Dennis Noel Poquita added 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Eugenio Paming and Frenche Bonn Petallo connived for 41 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals but their efforts went futile as Teleperformance slumped to its fourth consecutive setback.
