WBO title fight set at Waterfront
CEBU, Philippines - WBO bantamweight title holder Paulus Ambunda (20-0, 10KOs) of Nambia will put his title on the line against Japanese challenger Tomoki Kameda (27-0, 18KOs) on August 1 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
This will be Ambunda’s first title defense after he snatched the belt from former Thai champion Pungluang Sor Singyo via unanimous decision last March 2 at the Windhoek Country Club Resort in Windhoek, Nambia.
Sor Singyo was best remembered as the boxer who defeated ALA Gym boxer AJ ‘Bazooka’ Banal in their world title fight last October 20 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
This time Ambunda will face a tough Japanese warrior in Kameda who is the youngest of the three fighting Kameda brothers of Japan.
Tomoki who also holds the WBC silver bantamweight title, vows to claim his very first world title following the steps of his elder brother Koki who holds the WBA bantamweight title.
The world title fight is promoted by Kameda Boxing Promotions in coordination with Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud Promotions.
The Kameda brothers with their father Shiro often conduct their training camp here in Cebu at the RWS gym.
Tomoki just arrived yesterday night in Cebu and will immediately do a sparring session this afternoon at the RWS gym located in Brgy. Punta Prinsesa, this city. (FREEMAN)
