2 teams share View golfest lead
CEBU, Philippines - Two teams share the provisional lead in the penultimate day of The View Invitational 2013 at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
Brothers Marvin and Marco Mendoza combined for 152 points after 36 holes while Alvin Suarez and Baltaire Balangauan had the same aggregate to share the top spot as of presstime.
Marvin shot rounds of 34 and 37 while elder brother Marco scored 40 and 41. The View Invitational is a member-guest event.
Suarez shot rounds of 38 and 41 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System where players are allowed to use three-fourths of their lowest handicap for the March to May period while Balangauan scored 37 and 36 points.
Even-par for this format is 36 points.
One point back is the team of Henry Chu and (35-39) and Noel Abad (39-38) with a two-day total of 151 points.
Teams will be further classified under classes A, B, and C while those with total ages of 120 years old and above provided no member is less than 55 years old, will be grouped under the seniors’ division.
Dr. Edwin Ho Lim, who is still ecstatic with the triumph of his daughter Ericka in the Philippine Junior Masters Tournament, fired rounds of 37 and 40 while his partner Shee Jin Chia scored 32 and 39 for a team total of 148.
The teams of Jufil Sato (33-45) and Fernando Mondares (39-29) and Eddie Manzano (35-36) and Lino Mabatid (33-42) both have aggregates of 146 points.
About one hundred teams will be playing their second and final round Sunday.
Prizes
At stake as hole-in-one prizes are -- a car from Hyundai; Php 500,000 from Visayan Surety and AVGCC; a residential lot from Santa Lucia Realty; a golf cart from Club Car; Php 150,000 first bet coupons from Pagcor Casino Filipino; a motorcycle from Norkis Trading; hotel accommodations from Marco Polo Prince Hong Kong, Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, and Moevenpick Hotel Mactan; and a trip to Singapore from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours.
These prizes are assigned to specific holes.
There is also a Skygo motorcycle at stake for an eagle on any par-4 hole. But, whoever will score an eagle Sunday will have to share the prize with 17-year-old Sir Cross Abarintos, who eagled hole number 4 last Friday.
In case more than one player scores an ace on a particular hole, the prizes will be equally shared.
Also supporting the tournament are Beneficial Life Insurance, Cebu Mitsumi, Taiyo Yuden, Stradcomm, Trends and Technologies, and Bryan Chona.
Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort and Spa, Shooters Arms Manufacturing Corp., and Timex Phils. are also backing the tournament.
Several other corporate sponsors have also their products and services on display at the clubhouse for the duration of the tournament.
There will be prizes at stake for the overall lowest gross, overall lowest net and the top three teams for the three handicap categories. The lowest gross and the three best teams based on net scores for the seniors’ division will also get awards.
