Hiroshi, QCU and ERCO start strong
CEBU, Philippines - Hiroshi FC opened its grandslam bid with a 3-0 shutout of the University of Cebu-Nigerian team in the men's open division of the 13th Cebu Inter-Club Football Cup yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Antony Folkhanes punched in two consecutive goals at the 38th and 51st before Rodni Gadiongko sealed Hiroshi's triumph at the 75th.
The Queen City United (QCU) FC also got off to a rousing start courtesy of a 10-0 annihilation of Danao FC.
Xamson Olaniyi spearheaded QCU's scoring spree with four goals at the 11th, 13th, and 38th and 44th. Junard Aguilar scored a hat-trick at the 22nd, 87th and 89th, while Ariel Cahilig, Dan Villarico, and Limhar Baunsit chipped in one goal each at the 17th, 37th and 75th, respectively.
Another early favorite ERCO FC pulled off a 7-3 win against Cebu Korean, while Samba FC grabbed a 4-2 victory over the Mactan Camellanz United.
ERCO knocked in four goals in the first half through the efforts of Nori Mole Jr at the 5th and 29th and James Jhovan Bacus at the 31st and 40th.
Mole punched in two more goals at the 53rd and 80th, while Juvert Alcover got one at the 78th.
Samba, for its part, drew two goals from Musa Jibrin and one each from Cedric Tumbo and Khalif Mohammed.
In the women's action played at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City, the University of San Carlos (USC) hammered the Camellanz, 9-0, while Ateneo de Cebu pummeled CTU, 4-0.
In the 11-under category, Cebu Dynamo outsmarted Warzhockz, 1-0, Lahug Elementary School posted a 7-0 whitewash of Phoenix FC, Canduman defeated Tabor Hills, 2-0, while AdC routed USC-BED, 5-0.
In the 13-under match, BRO National edged out Ateneo de Cebu, 6-0,Mactan Camellanz silenced Tabor Hill, 4-0, while Phoenix and the Talisay Razkals overpowered SRP, 3-0, and Canduman, 4-0, respectively. (FREEMAN)
