Seno, Trazo lead Cebu’s hot charge in ru-Flex netfest
CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano players Jan Godfrey Seno and Gabriel Andre Trazo spearheaded Cebu's sizzling charge in the second day of action in the 14th Tru-Flex National Age-Group Tennis Championships played in different venues yesterday in Lapu-Lapu City.
At the Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase, the top seeded Seno whipped John Clyde Laquio, 6-1, 6-0 to proceed with 11 others into the third round of the boys 14 category
The other quarterfinalists in the said age-group are Marc Edrean Abangan, Jace Christian Unto, Manuel Navales, Bryan Otico, Adrian Kinaadman, Kun Teng Tche, Michael Francis Eala, Mathew Yee, Gener Francis Lambayan, Harvey Gilbuena and John Rudyard Sumalinog.
Over at the Lapu-Lapu City tennis courts, Trazo posted back-to-back wins to become the first semifinalist in the unisex 10-under division.
The Asturias-native Trazo opened his bid with a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing of John Kenneth Tenepre before coming up with another 6-0, 6-2 rout of Rupert Ohrelle Tortal.
In the other match, Eric Louise Longakit easily dismantled Alexander Po, 6-2, 6-3, to set up a quarterfinal battle against Alexandra Eala.
In the boys 12-under, the top-ranked Nio Tria marced into the last eight after kicking out Klein Russel Cañete, 6-2, 6-0.
In the boys 16-under class, the top seeded Dave Sebastian Mosqueda went through some tough moments before getting rid of Fabien Callud, 6-4-6-3 at the Amore Tennis Club. Mosqueda will face next Cebuano Jermaine Carl Chi, who progressed after beating Emmauel Vacalares, 6-2, 6-2.
Mosqueda had an easy going in the 18-under, coming up with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of Hong Kong's Ka Yao Leung to arrange a quarterfinal duel against fellow Cebuano Marc Norman Enriquez, who escaped past Francis John Rey Quino, 6-0, 7-6.
In the girls 12-under played at the Haruhay Dream Resort, No.1 Carlyn Bless Guarde posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Kianna Louise De Asis, 6-1, 6-3 to barge into the semis along with Adithya Karunaratne, who ousted Chui Kei Leung, 6-0, 6-0.
In the girls 14, Cebuana Kristin Renee Salimbangon hurdled her second round assignment against Pink Lloyd Manabat, but lost to the unheralded player from Leyte in Joy Camille Sanico, 6-4, 6-1 in the girls 16. (FREEMAN)
