Tru-Flex netfest unwraps today

CEBU, Philippines - The Tru-Flex National Age-Group Championships, the biggest junior tennis event to hit Cebu, gets underway today in four different venues in Lapu-Lapu City.

Games in the boys 14 and 16 will be at the Benito Ebuen Mactan Airbase. A total of 38 entries led by Cebuano topseed Jan Godfrey Seno will vies for top honors in the boys 14 category. The seeding is based on the player's ranking in the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA).       Seno is seeded No. 3 behind Sebastian Mosqueda and Jose Fernando Jose in the boys 16.

On the other hand, the unisex 10-under and boys 12 will be played at the Lapu-Lapu City tennis courts near the city hall.

There are a total of 12 participants in the unisex 10-under and 16 in the boys 12, with Nio Tria, Heart Sotto and Cebu’s Cesar Kristopher Salimbangon as the top seeds.

The boys 18, which drew 19 entries led by Sebastian Dave Mosqueda, as well as the girls 14 will be staged at the Amore Tennis Club.

The Haruhay Dream Resort plays host to the girls 12, 16 and 18 divisions. With only eight players in the girls 18, they will proceed to the quarterfinal round right away.

 Aside from the singles, this Group 1 PHILTA-sanctioned tilt also features a doubles competition for the unisex 10-under, boys and girls 14 and 18-under. (FREEMAN)
