TRAP lines up activities to boost Cebu triathlon
CEBU, Philippines - The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) has lined up a series of activities to further improve the skills and know-how of the local triathletes, coaches and even technical officials.
This 'total package', as the organizers call it, begins with a triathlon camp on March 24-26 at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Brgy. Canduman, Mandaue City. It will be handled by national youth developmental coach Melvin Fausto.
Fausto said during a press conference at Cebu Country Club the other day that those who attended the first edition of the training camp here will be separated from the new ones to make sure that they will learn new things.
All activities of the Tri Camp is in line with TRAP's National Junior Grassroots Development Program. It will culminate with a mini-sprint triathlon to be followed by an assessment of participants to be done by Fausto himself.
After the assessment, the campers will tested further as they compete in the Cebu leg of the National Age-Group Triathlon on April 6-7 at Alegre Beach Resort.
The event is also a Youth Olympic Games qualifier, thus, a host top-caliber athletes from all over the country are expected to show up.
TRAP official Oscar “Boying†Rodriguez, Jr. is hoping that the local triathletes who will be joining this event will be spotted by the national coaches and become part of the YOG this August in Nanjing, China just like the Chiongbian brothers Justin and Yuan.
Aside from the NAGT, TRAP has also scheduled a technical workshop for officiating officials on April 4-6 at a still undetermined venue. (FREEMAN)
