Indon 'Time Bomb' ready to explode vs. Servania

Lemuel P. Maglinte - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - He may be past his prime, but former two-time world title challenger Angky 'Time Bomb' Angkota (26-8, 14KOs) of Indonesia firmly believes that he still has what it takes to rescucitate his sagging career, vowing to be the first boxer to let Genesis 'Azukal' Servania (19-0, 6KOs) taste the bitterness of defeat.

Angkota will take on Servania, the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific and WBC Silver super bantamweight titlist, in the supporting main event of the keenly-awaited "Pinoy Pride XVIII:World Champion vs. World Champion" fight card this Saturday night at the Pacific grand ballroom of Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Angkota takes pride for being the only fighter to beat Donnie "Ahas" Nietes, now a two-division world champion who will be defending his WBO light flyweight title against Moises Fuentes of Mexico in the main event of the blockbuster show bankrolled by ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports. Fuentes is the WBO minimumweight champion who moved up from the 105-pound division to the 108-pound class just to challenge Nietes.

Angkota, who currently held the IBF Pan-Pacific and WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight crowns, also boasts of a vast experience in the squared arena having fought twice - albeit for a losing cause - against Mexican legend Jorge "Travieso" Arce and once against another Mexican star Fernando Montiel.

But the 31-year-old Angkota humbly said he only has a few years left in his fistic career and that he wants to close it strong.

“I have fought so many strong fighters like (Jorge) Arce, (Fernando) Montiel and (AJ) Banal. I have only three years left in my boxing career and I will do my best to beat Servania. I can't promise a knockout, but I can also say that he will not going to bring me down,” said Angkota in a press conference yesterday at Formo Resto Bar in Banilad Town Centre.

Aside from Banal, who defeated him by unanimous decision seven years ago, Angkota also lost to another ALA boxer in Rocky 'Road Warrior' Fuentes via first round knockout in 2005.

“Two of his (Servania) stablemates defeated me, but I won't allow that to happen this time,”  said Angkota.

In the other supporting bout, former OPBF champion Jimrex "The Executioner" Jaca (30-6, 20KOs)  aims to stretch his hot streak to nine as he slugs it out with Rachamongkol Sor Pleonchit (13-4, 5KOs) of Thailand's world-renowned Kokiet Gym.

Pleonchit expressed confidence of beating Jaca and vowed to deliver a knockout if he sees an opportunity. “I saw his fights and I am confident that if I get a chance, I will knock out Jaca,” said the former Muay-Thai champion.

Tickets are priced at P250 for balcony, P350 for ballroom, P500 for golden seats, P1,250 for VIP 4th row, P1,500 for VIP 3rd row, P2,000 for VIP 2nd row, P3,000 for VIP first row, and P4,000 for Platinum VIP.
