Semis cast now complete in ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup

CEBU, Philippines - It’s a case of a wider reach of the usual “suspects” making it to the semifinals of the ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup 2013: CYBL 6 after the weekend games held at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Mango Campus, Cebu Eastern College (CEC) and Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Gyms.

Pre-tournament  favorites University of the Visayas (UV) and University of San Carlos (USC) lead a string of teams to the different final four casts of the Under 10, 13 and 16 age groups of Division A and B action.

USC North leads all teams in the Under 10 age group with a 5-1 record as it ended its elimination round campaign. SHS-AdC, which now has a 3-2 slate, grabbed the second seed as it stopped the University of San Jose Recoletos-A (USJR), 18-15, with the U10 Jaguars taking third spot at 2-3. Both will face off again in the semifinals while USC South (1-4), which finished fourth in the standings, faces USC North in the semifinals.

In the Under 13 age group of Division A, SHS-AdC-A tied UV at the top as it defeated SHS-AdC-B, 87-42, and DBTC-A, to streak to a 5-0 record. CEC-A also scored two wins to hold on to third place. The Baby Dragons (4-2) ousted USJR-A, 55-30, then ran over SHS-AdC-B, 62-22. USC is at fourth place at 3-2 with one game remaining against UV. The final semifinal match-ups will be decided after the UV-USC and UV-SHS-AdC-A games this week. The top seed plays against the fourth seed while the second and third placers face off.

UV’s asserted its dominance of the Under 16 age group of Division A as it defeated DBTC-A, 71-48 and Abellana National School, 64-29, for a commanding 4-0 record. CEC grabbed second place after topping SHS-AdC 1, 57-41, and DBTC-A, 36-27. SHS-AdC 1 bounced back from its loss to CEC by beating USJR-A, 66-29. UV-A sits at the top with a 4-0 record, followed by CEC (3-1), guest team DBTC-A (2-1), SHS-AdC 1 (3-2), USJR-A (1-3) and ANS (0-4). SHS-AdC 1 and USJR-A are in position to nab the third and fourth spots for the semifinals.

In Division B games of the Under 13 age group, CEC-B downed Forum, 52-24 and DBTC-C, 43-19. SWU stopped DBTC-B, 34-20. Forum trounced USJR-B, 46-9. Guest team Thumbs Up defeated DBTC-B, 59-34.

In Under 16 Division B action, UV-B outscored Thumbs Up, 57-54, while USC South-B beat USJR-B, 35-22. DBTC-B dropped USJR-B, 73-30, and SHS-AdC 2 outran SWU, 47-33.

The semifinals of the ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup 2013, the flagship tournament of Season 6 of the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL), will be played this weekend. The tournament is composed of 50 teams spread over four age groups: Under 10, 13, 16 and 19. Action in the Under 19 kicks off also this weekend. (FREEMAN)
