Class ‘84/87/90 breaks 3-game jinx in CECABA
CEBU, Philippines - Argentina Corned Beef '84/87/90 slammed Fil-Ann 2009, 72-61, to finally barge into the win column of the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association's 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Saturday night at the CEC gym.
Paul Michael Cabellon fired 20 points and six reboudns, while power-playing center Sammy Sia bulldozed his way to an 18-point finish on top of eight rebounds and two assists as Class '84/87/90 snapped out of its three-game slump.
John Quilacio added 15 points, three assists and two rebounds for Class '84/87/90, which was in full command after closing the first half with a 37-26 advantage.
Joseph Baluyos, Jr. had 17 points and Nolasco Cisneros III hit a dozen markes but to no avail as Class 2009 absorbed its third loss in four starts.
In the other game, Tommy Yu sizzled with 18 points and 13 rebounds as Young Builders '91 streaked past JV Shop n Shop '97, 63-568, for its second win in five games.
Chester Benedict Go added 16 points, three assists and two rebounds, while Kevin Co added 11 points and dished out four assists for Class '91, which used a searing 19-6 run in the second period to change the course of the match in its favor.
Bryan Harry Labus was the lone double digit scorer with 14 points and 10 rebounds as Class '97 slipped to its third setback against one victory, so far.
