QCU teams zap foes in Aboitiz Cup

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Queen City United (QCU) bets in men's open and 38-above divisions zapped their respective foes in the 15th Aboitiz Cup football tournament yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

QCU hammered out a 2-0 win over Toledo Harumi to firm up its grip of the men's open lead with an immaculate 3-0 record.

The ever reliabled Dan Villarico drilled in QCU’s first goal at 19th. Carlo Bolo sealed the match for QCU with a goal at the 92nd.

QCU, however, suffered a slight setback after Frederick Isic was slapped with a red card at the 36th and Siegfred Apurado given a yellow card with only a minute left in the contest.

In the other match, Hiroshi FC nipped San Roque FC-Nawanaw, 2-0, with goals from Joshua Fegidero at the 38th and Kerth Bordalba at the 59th.

IUn the 38-above bracket, QCU clawed Balliant Hawk United in lopsided fashion, 5-1.

The 45-year-old Jan Nacional broke the ice of the match at the 17th following a corner kick scramble.

Vince Richard Yap scored on the equalizer at the 32nd, but that was all Balliant could muster as QCU went on a scoring spree behind the efforts of Marvin Baring, Manuel Dumangcas, Jun Ouano and Eddie Torreverde.

Like QCU, Hiroshi also tallied a victory in the 38-above class after it silenced SRFC, 2-1.

In the inter-BPO category, Convergys-A snatched its third win after outsmarting San Miguel, 2-1, while Innodata defeated Arkiteks United, 2-1.

In the other games, Team ERCO fought to a 2-2 draw with Unitech, Leylam improved its record to 3-0 after whipping Timex BP with goals from Cem Tasci at the 21st, PHL Under-14 coach Oliver Colina at the 37th and Rene Sanchez Jr. at the 39th. (FREEMAN)
