GUV Cup q’final round on Dec. 8 at CICC

CEBU, Philippines - The quarterfinal round of the 2012 Governor Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball (GUV) Cup is scheduled on December 8 at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

The premiere women’s division has the most number of qualifiers with 14. The men's bracket has 10 remaining contenders, while the kiddies class has 12.

Both men and women's division are split into two groups.

In the women’s side, group A is composed of Ginatilan, Moalboal,Santa Fe, Tabogon,Talisay, Toledo City and Lilo-an.

Defending champion Mandaue City is under group B along with Alegria, Bantayan, Catmon, Minglanilla, Oslob, and Tabuelan.

In the men’s play, group A has Asturias, Bantayan, Ronda, Talisay and Liloan, while the other side has Carcar, Moalboal, Santa Fe, Toledo and Mandaue.

In the kiddies action, group A is composed of Alegria, Asturias, Bantayan, Catmon, Talisay and Compostela. Carcar, Moalboal, Santa Fe, Tabogon, Tabuelan and Mandaue will slug it out in group B.

The quarterfinals will follow a best-of-three format just like in the cluster battle, while the semifinal and championship round slated on December 21-22 are a best-of-five affair.

The organizing Cebu Volleyball Association (CEVA) is reminding all players, coaches and assistant coaches to bring their GUV Cup identification cards in the next round.— (FREEMAN)
