3rd CCM formally launched

CEBU, Philippines - The third edition of the Cebu City Marathon set on January 13 at the Cebu IT Park was formally launched yesterday with no less than Mayor Michael Rama gracing the affair.

Rama said the City is throwing its full support to the annual event as it helps promote the Queen City of the South.

With that, the City government is expected to provide funding for the race especially for the prizes. The total cash prize allocation, however, has yet to be announced by the organizers.

The event, considered as one of the best marathons in the country, also features the 5K and 21K categories.       

Although some runners have earlier complained about the increase on the registration fee, the organizers are optimistic that they could still draw a large number of entries just like what they have done for the past two years.

Entry fee is pegged at P1,400 for the 42K, P900 for the 21K and P600 for the 5K for those who will enlist within the month of November. Those who whill register from December 1 to 16 will have to pay even higher at P800 for the 5K, P1,200 for the 21K, and P1,800 for the 42K.

However, the participants will get their money's worth as the entry fee includes a limited edition New Balance singlet, a beautifully crafted medal for the 42K finishers, a timing chip powered by Sprint Race times, post-race refreshments, massage for the 21 and 42km entries, finisher's loot bag for all, raffle tickets, product sampling and some giveaways by sponsors in all CCM-related activies, access to the marathon expo and carbo-loading party and discount card at the Active Zone of Ayala Center Cebu.

The marathon expo is going to take place on January 9-12, while the carbo-loading will be on January 11. Both activities will be held at Ayala.

Distribution of race packs will be from January 9 to 11 at the Active Zone. Special arrangements can be made for town participants in picking up their race kits.  Entry forms are available at the Active Zone of Ayala. One may also register online via www.cebumarathon.com. (FREEMAN)
