Boysen hands Unitec first defeat in UABC
CEBU, Philippines - Boysen Paints upstaged the previously undefeated Unitec Pipes, 71-67, to top the first round of elimination in the United Architects Basketball Club (UABC) Corporate Cup Season 6 last Sunday at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) gymnasium.
Boysen Paints is actually tied with Unitec on identical 4-1 win-loss records but Boysen is technically the top-ranked squad going into the second round by virtue of a simple tie.
The ever reliable Michael Cinco once again single-handedly carry Boysen Paints to victory with 34 points.
Boysen trailed by a matchstick after the first period, 19-20, but turned things around with a 26-11 blitz in the second period that saw the Paint Masters leading by 14 points at the break, 45-31. They padded their lead to 60-43 and then quelled Unitec's spirited endgame attack to escape with a four-point victory.
In the other games, Jonas Panerio sparkled with a season-high 27 points as Durabend pulled a 77-76 squeaker over Puyat Steel, while Ferrer Emboy, Jr. netted 17 markers as Matimco snapped out of its four-game losing skid with a 70-61 whacking of Cebu Home and Builders, 70-61. (FREEMAN)
