'Prince' Pagara clobbers Tampus in Balamban boxfest

- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Albert ‘Prince’ Pagara is starting to make a name for himself not only as the younger brother of WBO International light welterweight champion Jason "El Niño" Pagara but also as one of the hottest prospects of the famed ALA Boxing Gym.

The 18-year-old Pagara somehow proved this after he pounded out a lopsided unanimous decision victory over the former two-time regional champion Marvin "Bato" Tampus in the main event of the “Bakbakan sa Balamban” fight card the other night at the Mayor Exasperanza Binghay Memorial Sports Complex in the southwestern Cebu town of Balamban.

Pagara completely dominated the hapless Tampus from the start until the final bell on the way to earn the judges' nod with the scores of 100-90, 99-92, and 99-91. Thus, the pride of Maasin City stretched his unbeaten streak to 13, while handing Tampus his 16th defeat in 45 fights.

In the equally-exciting supporting bout, Gerpaul TI Yamagata Valero pulled off a stunner via first round stoppage of former ALA boxer Mharjun Macahilig.

Valero dropped Macahilig into the canvas three times, forcing the referee to halt the match at 2:45 mark of the opening round.

In the undercards, three ALA mainstays hurdled their respective assignments. Mark Vincent Bernaldez outpointed Albert Villacampa, Jojo “Flash’ Intor battered Japanese Takaomi Naoma, while Roma Rate scored a sixth round TKO victory over Sherwin Caday.  (FREEMAN)
