- The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Iligan City's pride Marco Demecillo Singwangcha dazzled his hometown fans in style, dishing out a splendid fourth round TKO win over the previously undefeated Marjun Tabamo to clinch the Philippine super flyweight championship last Tuesday night at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) gym in Lanao del Norte.

Inspired by the presence of his Thai benefactor Naris Singwangcha who flew all the way from Thailand to watch the fight at the ringside, the 22-year-old Mindanao brawler groomed by the world-renowed RWS Stable of Cebuano topnotch promoter Rex "Wakee" Salud delivered a stellar performance that cemented his status as one of the brightest prospects in Phl boxing.

A confident Singwangcha gamely exchanged blows with Tabamo at the outset to the delight of spectators. At times, Singwangcha was at the receiving end of Tabamo's solid hits, but he simply shruggged it off and even smiled at his foe.

Singwangcha landed a barrage of body punches in the second round and then floored Tabamo with crisp head blows in the third round. In the fourth, Singwangcha caught Tabamo with energy-sapping body shots that forced Tabamo to backtrack.

Smelling blood, Singwangcha did not waste time in going for the kill as he unleashed an assortment of punches to the head and body that flattened Tabamo for good at the 1:15 mark of the fourth round.

Singwangcha, thus, stretched his unbeaten record to 18-0 now packed with 14KOs, while Tabamo saw his eight-bout winning streak come to an end.

In the undercard, Tabanao Singwangcha of Flores Boxing Gym scored a smashing first round knockout of Roland Magluyan. Tabanao let loose a powerful body shot that sent Magluyan down on both knees in 1:40 of the opening session.

In the other bouts, Norj Guru won by unanimous decision over Luzminda Guido, Jason Neri also prevailed by unanimous verdict over Jonathan Singwangcha, while Dondon Alvarez dealt Kenny Demecillo his first career defeay via TKO at 1:02 of the third round.
