Grandparents Day
It was a sleepless weekend for yours truly as I embarked on two successive events at SM City Consolacion to celebrate Grandparents Day. Over 70 senior citizens participated in the Walk for Wellness which required the “oldies but goodies” to cover the SM City perimeter twice. Just before the walk , we had a warm up at the event center. Ultramarathoner Alejandro Geyrozaga made the event “ a real walk in the park” but was relegated as guest walker. After the walk Raffy Osumo and myself gave tips on the physical activities and nutrition of senior citizens. I also told them to uplift the dignity of the elderly. I made Rening Ylaya who at 76 years old, ran 80 kilometers at the Century Properties 100km Ultramarathon and finished the 65km Coast to Coast Ultramarathon from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to Toledo City last April. I also conducted a “Name that Tune” game where I made the seniors guess the title of the instrumental songs we played.
Elvis and company a hit
The following day we were again at SM City Consolacion for our variety show “Elvis and Company Seranade the Grandparents.” The concert was to start at 5:00 pm but as early as 4:00pm all seats were already taken. Several foreigners were also around to watch Elvis. The show opened with the comic antics of hosts Sam Costanilla and Max “Daloydoy” Andrino. First to strut his were Mark Babiera , the Micheal Jackson of Cebu who moonwalked on stage followed by the impressive performance of balladeer Boyet Lim. Ate Ging Montesclaros was next before Chokolet treated the crowd with his magic and of course his Anaconda show. It was almost two hours before Sam announced that Elvis was in the building . Elvis started with his patented entry to the sound of “Spake Zarathustra” or if you’re not familiar with the title, it was the sound track of Space Odyssey. Elvis had to cut short his numbers as the show exceeded two hours. We would like to thank SM City Consolacion especially mall Manager Van Aberia, SM marketing officers Sam Rottiers and Leizel Olitres and foodcourt manager Emma Salde. It was indeed a real treat for the grandparents. Watch out for some footages of the show on Sam Enchanted Evening CCTN Channel 47 tonight at 10:00pm
