Yaw-Yan fighters split matches in CDO

CEBU, Philippines - Two fighters from Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu Top Team suffered contrasting fates in the Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts (MUMMA)-presented “The Proving Ground–Warshock” card the other night at the Liceo de Cagayan University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

Cebu-based British MMA warrior Cris Thompson Brooks came up with a first round stoppage of heavyweight veteran Gygz Ocampo, but Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Visayas pinweight challenger Geronimo Etac was not fortunate enough as he was caught by an armlock in the opening session by Manila’s Rabin Catalan of Tricks MMA.

It was a tough battle for Brooks as he was at the receiving end of a crushing hook by Ocampo early on, but the bull-strong Briton quickly recovered and used his ground fighting technique to fluster his foe. He followed his attack with vicious elbow shots and punches that forced the Davaoeño to quit.

Etac, on the other hand, proved to be superior in striking, but Catalan brought the fight to the ground and succesfully executed a crucifix position that shackled Etac’s right arm.

Like Etac, two other Cebuano fighters fumbled in their respective bids.
