CEBU, Philippines - In the spirit of fair play, Cebu’s top female triathlete Rochelle Tan joined the open category instead of running conveniently among fellow students and still won the women's 13K race during the 7th University Run-Three Bridge Challenge yesterday at the Cebu Doctors' University in Mandaue reclamation area.
Tan bested Donna Cruz-Larrazabal for the top spot with the time of one hour and 6.01 seconds. Larrazabal clocked in 1:08:47, while former national weightlifter-turned runner Emily Rosas finished third in 1:12:16.
The little-known Jodell Batarilan topped the 13K men's division with the time of 48 minutes and three seconds followed by Joselito Cañete (55:41) and Sidrolito Salvador (58:24).
In the 25K action, Christy Sevilleno-Tutor clinched the title with the time of two hours, one minutes and 30 seconds. Madelyn Carter wound up second in 2:04.09 as Mary Jane Beboso placed third in 2:07:30.
Kenyan Josphat Kiptanui topped the men's side with a 1:30:12 clocking. (FREEMAN)
