Carmen to stage first running event on Aug. 25

CEBU, Philippines - The municipality of Carmen will organize its first running event dubbed as ‘St. Augustine Fiesta Run for the Church’ on August 25 at the town's plaza.

The organizers said proceeds of the fund-raising event will be used for the ongoing renovation of the St. Augustine church.

“Aside from promotiong a healthy lifestyle to our townfolk, we decided to organize this run to raise funds for the continuing renovation of the St. Augustine parish church,” said race chairman and councilor Manuel Marie Durano.

Close to 500 runners from Carmen and neighboring towns are expected to join in the race featuring the 5K open and 3K categories.

Registration fee is pegged at P250 inclusive of a singlet and post-race refreshments. Entry forms are available at the Carmen municipal hall and at the Cebu City Sports Center.

A total of P10,000 in cash prizes will be given away to the top finishers in every category.

Aside from the charity run, Carmen will also organize a basketball and airsoft tournament. (FREEMAN)
