Academy of Eskrima to conduct special classes for masters

CEBU, Philippines - The Academy of Eskrima has scheduled a special training for eskrimadors who have at least 10 years of training or experience on the Filipino martial arts.

Engr. Michael Cañete, Dean and Executive Vice President of the Academy, said the project was formalized upon request by several masters and instructors who desire to learn the arnis curriculum approved and registered with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority ( TESDA ), and exclusively taught by the school at its 3-storey gym in Sto. Niño Village, Brgy. Banilad, this city.

These people, who are all recognized experts on the Filipino martial arts, have admitted that the well structured, highly detailed and ladderized lessons of the Academy is a must if one wants to properly teach and promote the art.

Moreover, learning the TESDA-approved program not only enhance one’s skill and knowledge but also broaden and expand his understanding about eskrima/arnis since it covers all the component fighting style of the Filipino art such as single stick, double stick, long stick, espada y daga, knife fighting, sword/long blade fighting and empty hand.     Teaching all the component fighting styles in various ranges and forms make the art so comprehensive, well rounded and complete as what the Filipino martial art is known throughout the world.

The classes will commence on August 13 and will last through the third week of September. So far, 12 masters have signed up. A maximum of 20 students will be accepted on this special class.

Top certified instructors, Grandmasters Val Pableo, Andres Cañete and Felix Gutang; as well as Master Jose Borces, Victor Tiu and Rudy Rey are tapped to handle the classes.

Supreme Grandmaster and President of the Academy Dionisio Cañete is scheduled to teach during the last two weeks of the course.    - THE FREEMAN
