SGM Cañete's protege named WEKAF Country Director for Oman
CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano eskrima master Jose Eric Mosqueda was elected World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF) Country Director for the Sultanate of Oman.
Mosqueda, an engineer by profession, is one of the three protege of the greatest eskrimador of all time - Supreme Grandmaster Dionisio Cañete, ODL. He was one of three students SGM Cañete taught along with Doce Pares chairman GM Arnulfo "Dong" Cuesta, ODL.
"Eric is one of my first batch of students and I am happy that he was officially installed as country director for Oman. His installation as country director will mean that the world-renowned Filipino martial arts will now be further propagated and promoted in Middle East. And I know he can exceptionally do it well," said SGM Cañete.
Mosqueda, a Doce Pares eighth grade black-belter, has been in Oman for decades to practice his profession as engineer. He completed yesterday his Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) Basic Eskrima Course at the Academy of Eskrima in Banilad, Cebu City.
With the TESDA certification, Mosqueda can officially run an eskrima school in Oman and neighboring countries.
Mosqueda was inducted into office last July 21 at the Cebu International Convention Center along with 30 other country directors during the Awards' Night for the 12th WEKAF World Championships.
Mosqueda got two silver medals in the Single Stick and Double Stick sparring competition. He led Oman's haul of four golds, three silvers, and one bronze. – PR (THE FREEMAN)
