CEBU, Philippines - The handlers of International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight champion Johnriel ‘Quadro Alas’ Casimero (16-2, 10KOs) believe that their prized ward is hard-pressed to score a knockout when he stakes his crown against the dangerous Mexican Pedro Guevara (18-0, 13KOs) on August 4 at the Centro de Convenciones in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico.
Casimero became the latest addition in the list of Pinoy world champions after the IBF upgraded his status from interim to regular champion due to the inability of Ulises Solis to defend his belt within the prescribed period.
However, Casimero’s trainer Christopher ‘Pingping’ Tepora said the pride of Ormoc City faces an uphill battle as he puts his throne on the line for the first time at enemy's lair.
“It’s either we knock the guy (Guevara) out or win the fight in a dominant way to avoid any hometown decision,” said Tepora, who will be leaving for Mexico today along with Casimero and Cebuano promoter Sammy Gello-ani.
Tepora expressed confidence though that even with the Mexican’s perfect record, Guevara will be a walking target for Casimero.
“Casimero can handle him easily. He (Guevara) has an impressive record but all that he has beaten were weak and unknown boxers,” said Tepora, adding that Casimero is in “excellent condition and in the best shape of his career”. - THE FREEMAN
