CEBU, Philippines - The vaunted Kenyan runners led by Josphat Kiptanui and Abraham Missos scored another clean sweep, while Cebuana running star Mary Joy Tabal stole the show in the women's division of the 2nd St. Ignatius de Loyola Run presented by the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu early yesterday morning at the Insular Square in Mandaue City.
Kiptanui came out the fastest among the 1,000 plus entries, clocking in 53 minutes and 56.90 seconds to rule the 16K men's open category.
Fellow Kenyans Douglas Mbui and Francis Kakui placed second and third with the time of 54:56.67 and 57:28.78, respectively, followed by Sherwin Manangil (57:36.67) and Michel Largo (57:37.12).
Completing the top 10 finishers were Joseph Arnel Emia (1:01:07.56), Rolan Batiancila (1:04:00.32), Leo Abello (1:06:58.34), Roirich Masong (1:06:59.35) and Joey Oacan (1:12:11.45).
In the distaff side, Tabal lorded it over with the time of one hour, four minutes and 2.23 seconds. Mary Grace de Los Santos finished second in 1:07:33.22, while the next three spots were occupied by Christy Sevilleno-Tutor (1:09:17.14), Madelyn Carter (1:19:40.23) and Mary Jane Beboso (1:19:41.56).
The rest who barged into the top 10 were Preciosa Sanchez (1:26:26.90), Erlinda Mayam (1:31:28.34), Doreen Jabines (1:32:52.78), Ma. Jessica Perales (1:33:00.90), and Japanese national Nao Idio (1:38:50.34).
In the men's 6K division, Missos crossed the finish line first in 19 minutes and 17.45 seconds followed by Joebert Carolino (19:44.57) and John Daryll Manos (20:09.34). Jess Gonzaga placed fourth in 20:13.34, while Jorry Ycong landed at fifth in 20:14.78.
Lovely Andrin clinched the 6K women's crown with the time of 23:55.76. Aiza Suaybaguio wound up second in 24:27.23 followed by Jhean Andrin (24:50.24), Cherry Andrin (25:17.67) and Crizel Diongson (25:48.76).
Missos lorded it over in the men's 6K action in 19 minutes and 17.45 seconds. Joebert Carolino was second in 19:44.57 followed by John Daryll Manos (20:09.34), Jess Gonzaga (20:13.34) and Jorry Ycong (20:14.78).
SHS-Ateneo's pride Jose Maria Navarro bagged the first place honors in the men's 3K with the time of 12 minutes and 36.09 seconds. Zachary Huang landed at second place in 12:50.56 followed by Joseph Angelo Costelo (13:13.07), Wilmer Paolo Lopez (14:13.36) and Joshua Ouano (14:14.46).
On the other hand, the top three finishers in the women's 3K were Celiuna Mae Revalde (16:42.33), Kate Wrina Barcenas (17:19.67) and Veia Marie Nery (18:01.56). (FREEMAN)
