Singwangcha battles Cerna in Compostela

CEBU, Philippines - Philippine super flyweight champion Marco Demecillo Singwangcha will stake his unbeaten record when he goes up against Phl No.8 bantamweight contender Jeffrey "Relentless" Cerna of Manila in a 10-round non-title bout headlining the "Reign of Champions" fight card on July 22 at the Compostela Sports Complex.

The 21-year-old Singwangcha, who is unscathed in 17 fights with one draw and 12 wins by knockout, scored a spectacular third round stoppage of Marvin Mabait last April 22 at the Mactan Shrine in Lapu-Lapu City.

It was his first successful defense of the PHL belt he won with a ninth round TKO of Lowie Bantigue on October 9 last year at the Panphil B. Frasco Memorial Sports Complex in Liloan.

On the other hand, the Biñan City, Laguna-native Cerna carries a 12-5 win-loss record spiked with 5KOs. He is coming off two consecutive defeats, the most recent was by split decision to the undefeated ALA Stable stalwart Arthur "El Matador" Villanueva in the undercard of the "Pinoy Pride 14:Night of Champions" last June 2 at the Resorts World Hotel and Casino in Pasay City.

Cerna once vied for the the WBC Youth World Silver super flyweight title but lost by eighth round knockout to Thailand's Petch Sor Chitpattana last March 30 at the Chokchai 4 Market in Bangkok, Thailand.

In the supporting main event of the slambang show bankrolled by RWS Promotions International of Rex "Wakee" Salud, Thai promoter Naris Singwangcha and TI Yamataga Promotions of Japan in association with the municipality of Compostela led by Mayor Joel Quiño, Adonis TI Tamagaya Aguelo of Maasin City will take on Jerry Nardo of Bacolod City in a 12-round rumble for the interim Phl featherweight championship.

Redondo Singwangcha of Ormoc City will face Eman Lavanza of Mandaue City for the PBF super featherweight crown.

In the special bouts featuring "Buhay Boksingero" champions, Jherpaul TI

Yamagata Valero will slug it out with Romnick Magos of Negros Oriental, Rajah Renoel Pael will tackle Louie Arlos of Bacolod City, while Ardie TI Yamagata Boyose will mix it up with Arnel Caoktoy of Ormoc City.

The rest of the card held in partnership with GMA-7 Kapuso network pits Dodong Masashi of Mandaue vs. Jonathan Singwangcha of Cebu City; Kenny Singwangcha of

Iligan vs. Alvin Arresgado of Siquijor; Compostela's hometown pride Jun Ryan Quimbo vs. Bryan Samson of Siquijor; Jayvee Galea of Leyte vs. Roel Sumabong of Mandaue; and RJ Gonzales of Leyte vs. Lloyd Hardeliza of Anggono, Rizal. (FREEMAN)
