Pages, Lambayan stamp classes in Futures tennis tourney

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Jana Pages and Gener Francis Lambayan emerged as the first two title-holders in the inaugural staging of the Futures Tennis Program’s monthly competition, which shifted action to the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

It wasn’t an easy victory for Pages and Lambayan though as they had to pass through the wringer before fending off their equally-tough foes.

Pages prevailed over Alyssa Mae Bornia in the girls 14-under finals via a hard-earned 6-4, 7-5 decision.

Lambayan even had a harder way up with Francis Hidalgo giving him a big trouble from start to finish.

Lambayan was fortunate enough that it rained during the first set, forcing the organizers to move the final match from the Cebu Country Club to Alta Vista.

Momentum then swung on Lambayan's side as he gamely clawed back from a first set debacle 3-6 to turn the tables on Hidalgo, 6-3, 10-3.

In the consolation round featuring players that were relegated into the loser's bracket, Darren Navasquez and Sheena Camporedondo have something to cheer about.

Navasquez dumped Rommel Lopez, 8-5, while Camporedondo outgunned Precious Coderos, 8-4. — (FREEMAN)
