Salimbangon off to rousing start in Futures netfest
CEBU, Philippines - Cesar Kristofer Salimbangon opened his title bid with a resounding victory over Leo Angelo Yu in the first monthly battle of the Futures Tennis Program yesterday at the Cebu Country Club.
Salimbangon whipped Yu in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1 to advance into the next round of the boys 12 category.
Yu, however, will not be eliminated outright as the organizers are allowing consolation matches for the first round losers.
Neil Limpangog and Mark Clavel joined Salimbangon into the next phase of the competition. Limpangog dumped Rommel Lopez, 6-1, 6-1, while Clavel outsmarted James Paulo Uyan, 6-3, 6-2.
In the girls 14 category, Shane Villareal upstaged Sheena Camporedondo, 6-4, 6-2, Zethley Mae Alferez clobbered Liza Lopez, 6-1, 6-0, while Alyssa Mae Bornia hammered Precious Coderos, 6-0, 6-2.
Whoever will shine in the monthly tilt will form part of a training pool that will be trained further to become top-caliber netters.
