Su wants sportsclimbing revival
CEBU, Philippines - Randy Su, the godfather of adventure activities in Cebu, wants to revive sportsclimbing here.
Sportsclimbing used to be popular in Cebu that numerous national competitions have taken place here.
Cebu has also produced a good number of top-caliber athletes including Jun Vidal, who had been part of the Asian X-Games in 2004 and a SEA Games gold medallist.
But instead of moving forward, sportsclimbing has somehow “died down” with one climbing center after the other closing down.
Su said Cebu even had no representatives in sportsclimbing event of the POC-PSC Philippine National Games recently in Manila, prompting him to think about reviving the sport.
Meanwhile, the organizers of R.O.X. Outdoor Festival are supposed to include wall climbing competition in their event next month, but decided to move it to later date.
“We have to re-introduce sportsclimbing here. This is the reason why ROX had to move the competition,” Su said. - THE FREEMAN
