Hontiveros to grace opening of MCCI hoopla

- Sterremae L. Allego - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuano hardcourt star Dondon Hontiveros will add glitz and glamour to the formal opening of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Basketball Playoffs 2012 at 6 pm on June 17 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

The 6-foot-2 Hontiveros is currently playing of the Petron Blaze Booters in the PBA. He donned the Don Bosco Greywolves' jersey in high school and suited up for the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters during his collegiate days.

It was, however, his stint with the Cebu Gems in the now defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA) that made him a bankable star in the pro league, signing up for the Tanduay Rhum Masters before he was eventually traded to San Miguel Beer (now Petron) in 2003.

Aside from the presence of Hontiveros as special guest, the other highlights of the affair is the selection of best muse and best in uniform. The best muse will receive P1,000, a bouquet of flowers and a gift from sponsor, while the team with the best in uniform will get P3,000.

Meanwhile, the MCCI tournament follows a double round elimination format. The championship match is scheduled on July 1.

Aside from trophies, the champion will take home P8,000, while the runner-up will pocket P5,000.

Registration fee is pegged at P6,000 for MCCI member and P7,000 for non-member of the organizing group.

For more information, one may contact the MCCI secretariat at 420-2252 or 420-2232 or call/text Cyruz at 0917-3147912. (FREEMAN)
