Cebu Life Guard rules Bohol swimfest

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Life Guard and Swimming Center (CLGSC) dominated the 2012 Big J Summer Novice Swimming Challenge with 843 points out of their 45 golds, 23 silvers and 16 bronzes at the 25-meter Philippine Maritime Institute (PMI) pool in Taloto District, Tagbilaran City.

Marieezekeil Demafelis led CLGSC's charge with six golds followed by Marielle Estreba with four golds and two silvers. Nikkalyn Gonzales and Shadro Pitulana ended with four golds and one silver apiece.

Raven Faith Alcoseba came up with four golds and a bronze, Grant Eyhan Lim and Camila Kim Lopez both had two golds and three silvers, while Psalm Deniel Aquino had three golds and two silvers.

Thomas Anthony and Jemal MacJulian Bandoy contributed two golds each, Thomas Anthony snatched two golds, three silvers and a bronze, while Jemal added two golds, one silver and two bronzes.

The other medal contributors for CLGSC were Steven Perez with 1-2-2 (g-s-b), Beatriz Rodriguez (1-1-1), Frankho Rodriguez ( 2g-1b), Nicky Mattheo Hermosa (1g-1b), Czar Hanna Belina (1g-1s), Prince Emil Nova with one gold, Murray Elwell Demafelis with two silvers, Rhylle Valerie Secretaria with two silvers, and Fiona Alcoseba with one bronze.

The wards of coach Rolando Remolino also emerged as the most bemedalled athletes in their respective classes including Mariel Estreba (girls 7-8, 9-10, and 13-14), Psalm Deniel Aquino (boys 9-10),Thomas Anthony Bandoy and Marieezekiel Demafelis (11-12) and Shandro Pitulan (boys 15-above).

The top swimmers in the other age groups were Bohol Aquatic Sports Academy’s Miguel Angelo Fucanan (boys 7-8), and Angelu Noel Gallego and Janna Nicole Jose (6-under division) and Hannah Joy (girls 11-12) and Gordon James Liau (boys 13-14) of Narwhal Swimming Team.

The Bohol Aquatic Sports Academy of coach Vince Indig came out second overall with 559 points from 17 golds, 18 silvers and 14 bronzes, while Narwhal Swimming Team of coach Mylene Bersabal wound up third with 311 points out of their 14-13- 6 medal haul.     - THE FREEMAN
