Pinamungajan to host first leg of 100K Ultramarathon trilogy

CEBU, Philippines - After organizing the country’s first all-women ultra race, the Cebu Ultrarunners Club and Ungo Runners Club once again join hands to stage the first 100-kilometer Ultra-Marathon trilogy that will kick off on June 30 in the southwestern Cebu town of Pinamungajan.

The first leg will start and finish in Pinamungajan via Toledo, Naga, San Fernando, Carcar, Barili, and Aloguinsan.

“The ultra running community in Cebu is getting bigger, thus, we are giving them an opportunity to join a quality race on a low-cost budget, without having to go outside Cebu,” said ultra runner Haide Acuña during the launching of the event yesterday at White Gold House restaurant.

The lung-busting race of endurance, stamina and mental toughness will start at 6 pm of June 30 and is expected to end at 2 pm of July 1 following the cut-off time of 20 hours.

The participants who can't pass through the first 50K in 10 hours will automatically be given a DNF (did not finish) mark. They can still continue the race but at their own risk.

The organizers are limiting the number of entries to only 100 to ensure that the event will only be for hardcore runners who are capable of finishing the race.

Secret marshals will be employed by the organizers to make sure that only the deserving winners will be recognized.

Registration fee is pegged at P1,500, while the pacers will have to pay P400.

A specially-designed medal will be given to the finishers in each leg, while another medal will be handed out to those who can complete the three-leg series.

The second leg is scheduled in November, while the third and final leg will be done next year with no confirmed venue. - THE FREEMAN
