Liloan leads finalists in Durano caging

- Pepe Sollano -

CEBU, Philippines - The elimination round of the 6th Congressman Red Durano Cup 19-Under Inter-Town Basketball Tournament ended last week with four teams led by defending champion Liloan advancing into the finals.

The other three qualifiers were last year's first runner-up Sogod, Danao City and San Francisco in Camotes island.

Borbon municipal councilor Roy Melgo, the tournament chairman, said each team from different towns showcased their hoop skills with savvy.

“Dako kaayo ang among pasalamat sa mga nag-host nato nga lungsod ug ingon man sa Danao City sa ilang gipakita nga suporta sa atong basketball tournament," said Melgo.

Rep. Durano, for his part, said he was happy with the support and cooperation of the mayors and councilors in the district during the elimination phase.

"It only shows that the mayors and councilors know the importance of the tournament not only by promoting camaraderie and unity but also providing the youth an avenue to showcase their hardcourt talents," said Durano, who drew a lot of praise from the town officials of the district for his concern to the youth.

The Fifth District of Cebu is composed of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela and Liloan along with Pilar, Tudela, Poro and San Francisco of Camotes island.

The annual event aims to promote sportsmanship, fair play, development of the moral values of athletes, and foster fellowship and goodwill among the member towns of the district. - THE FREEMAN
