Garcia-Clavecilla, Acain-Seno tandems lead winners' cast

CEBU, Philippines - Ramontito Garcia and Iggy Clavecilla as well as Ed Acain and Nilo Seno emerged as the best teams in The View Invitational 2012, which ended Sunday at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city.

Garcia and Clavecilla bagged the overall lowest gross title shooting a combined five-over-par 293 strokes in the four-day, 36-hole signature event of the club.

Acain and Seno took home the lowest net plum beating two other teams in the countback by virtue of having the best score on their second round. Acain fired rounds of 32 and 37 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System while Seno had identical rounds of 45 points.

Their two-day total was 159 on rounds of 77 and 82. The winning duo beat the tandems of Alex Garcia and Nathan Leslie and that of Wendell Yap and Nestor Cabrera in the tie breaker.

The Division A crown went to the pair of Jufil Sato and Fernando Mondares with a total of 150 points on rounds of 73 and 77. Sato fired 36 and 40 points while Mondares made identical 37s.

Second place for the premiere category went to Toby Florendo and Glen Yap with 149 points (73-76). Florendo shot 39 and 34 while Yap made 34 and 42.

Third place went to the tandem of Victor Gocela and Gus Mata with an aggregate of 148 points (76-72). Gocela shot rounds of 41 and 40 while Mata made 35 and 32.

In Division B, Alex Garcia and Nathan Leslie had rounds of 79 and 80 for a total of 159 points and a victory via countback. Garcia fired rounds of 40 and 40 while Leslie had 39 and 40 points.

Second place went to Wendell Yap and Nestor Cabrera also with 159 points (77-82). Yap had rounds of 39 and 42 while Cabrera shot 38 and 40.

Third place for the second group went to Jojo Alquizola and Noel Ybañez with a total of 149 points on rounds of 74 and 75. Alquizola shot identical rounds of 34 points while Ybañez made 40 and 41.

Tito Pintor and Sim Guinocor topped Division C with a total of 149 points, winning the title via countback over brothers Cesar and Edwin Salimbangon.

Pintor fired rounds of 37 and 38 while Guinocor shot 32 and 42 points.

Cesar Salimbangon made 38 and 37 points while his younger brother Edwin had 32 and 42 to finish second.

Third place went to the tandem of Eddie Manzano and Lino Mabatid with a total of 141 (70-71). Manzano scored 30 and 33 points while Mabatid made 40 and 38.

In the seniors’ division for teams with a total age of 120 years or older, the duo of Vicente ‘Inting’ Go and Col. Oscar Cornelio emerged as the champion with a two-day total of 158 points on rounds of 77 and 81. Go, who is also the club’s tournament chairman, fired rounds of 36 and 42 while the long-hitting Cornelio made 41 and 39.

Second place went to the team of Hospicio ‘Razy’ Razon and Romeo ‘Boy’ Alegre with 155 points (81-74). Razon shot rounds of 44 and 35 while Alegre made 37 and 39.

Third place went to Regino ‘Rey’ Sanchez and Mario Bancale with 153 (75-78). Sanchez shot two rounds of 39 while Bancale made 36 and 39.

A special prize was given to Alex Yeo for an albatross (double-eagle) on the par-5 9th hole.

Sharing the Skygo motorcycle at stake for an eagle on any par-4 hole were Gene Quintanilla and Junrey Pelayo. Quintanilla scored an eagle on hole No. 1 last Thursday while Pelayo eagled the 14th last Sunday. - THE FREEMAN
