ERCO nails third consecutive win Tops men's open bracket A in Inter-Club football

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - After losing its opening assignment, ERCO FC bounced back with aplomb, winning its next three games to top bracket A in men's open division of the 12th CAFC Cebu Inter-Football Cup yesterday at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center field in Brgy. Talamban, this city.

ERCO claimed FC Inter-Cebu as its latest victim via a 5-1 demolition.

Interestingly, FCIC nailed the first goal of the match courtesy of Michael Cabigon at the 12th.

From that point on, however, ERCO stepped up its game and never allowed the opposing squad to convert another goal.

Raymond Torre delivered ERCO’s first goal at the 24th. Davis Surig and RJ Sanchez followed suit at the 28th and 41st to give ERCO a 3-1 advantage at halftime.

ERCO knocked in two more goals in the final half behind the efforts of Robert Mamac at the 56th and John Roy Melgo at the 72nd.

In bracket A of boys 17 class, Springdale is already assured of a semifinal slot even if fought to a scoreless draw with Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu courtesy of its clean 3-0-1 slate.

SHS-AdC, on the other hand, will fight for dear life when it takes on Ormoc today.

In the bracket B played at San Roque Parish field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City, the Cebu team emerged as elimination round topnotcher, winning its last game by forfeiture against Abellana National School/Pomeroy which showed up with only six players.

ANS/Pomeroy though barged into the boys 14 semifinal round after it eked out a 2-1 win over the Los Amigos, 2-1, in the same way with Canduman after it slammed SJSM/3 Brothers, 6-1.

In the 40-above class, Hiroshi and San Roque FC proceeded into the next round after dumping Queen City-B, 7-0m and Baliant Hawks, 4-1, respectively.

Over at PAREF-Springdale, Ormoc FC scoreed back-to-back victories in bracket A to stay in contention in the boys 12 division, while Danao FC came up with a 4-0 whitewash of San Roque for its second win in three starts.

In the players 10 action, USC-North kept its bid alive after escaping past Team Warzhockz, 2-1. (FREEMAN)
