Razon-Alegre paces View

CEBU, Philippines - The tandem of Hospicio ‘Razy’ Razon and Romeo ‘Boy’ Alegre set the early pace in The View Invitational 2012 at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.

The tandem, which is also bracketed under the seniors’ class, held the clubhouse lead as of press time yesterday with an opening day output of 81 points. Razon carded eight-under-par 44 points in the Modified Stableford Scoring System while Alegre added 37.

Running second were the teams of Ed Acain and Nilo Seno and that of tournament committee chairman Vicente ‘Inting’ Go and Col. Oscar Cornelio. Both team shot 77 points.

Acain fired 32 points, but got a big lift from Seno, who shot nine-under-par 45 points.

Go carded even-par 36 points while Cornelio made 41. The pair is also bracketed under the seniors’ class.

The players are allowed to use only three-fourths of their lowest handicap for the March to May period of this year.

At stake for the tournament will be prizes for the team with the lowest gross and lowest net aside from the top three for the three handicap classes and also the seniors’ division.

To qualify for the seniors’ class, the total age of the two players must not be less than 120 years.

At stake for a hole-in-one on all par-3 holes are a Meister watch, a motorcycle from Norkis Trading, P200,000 worth of bet coupons from Pagcor Mactan and Lahug, and a LG 32-inch TV.

An additional prize for an ace on the 2nd hole is a gift certificate for hotel accommodation from Marco Polo Plaza Hotel. On the 8th is a trip ticket from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours.

For the 13th is a Kia Picanto from Kia Motors Cebu while on the 15th is trip to Hong Kong from Philippine Airlines with accommodations from Marco Polo Hotel and a residential lot from Santa Lucia Realty.

On all par-4 holes, a Skygo motorcycle is at stake for a gross eagle. As of yesterday afternoon, Gene Quintanilla, a guest was the only one to have scored the feat by nailing his second shot on hole No. 1 from 130 yards.

In case more than one player will score either an ace or eagle on a designated hole, the prizes at stake will be equally shared.

Running fourth was the team of Victor Gocela and Gus Mata with 74 points. Gocela fired 41 while Mata made 33.

Jufil Sato shot 36 points and his partner Ferdinand Mondares made 37 to combine for 73 points. They were the last team to shoot below par among those that finished early.

Three teams are one point further back with identical scores of even-par 72 points. These were Alvcin Suarez (36) and Baltaire Balangauan (36), Junjun Osmeña (36) and Edwin Morales (36), and the all-doctor tandem of Alberto Solis (31) and Butch Macachor 41).

The second half of the field is set to play its first round today in this four-day 36-hole tournament, which is also the club’s signature event.
