CEBU, Philippines - The 15th edition of the much-awaited The View Invitational of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club will tee off tomorrow with a field of 400 players expected to see action.

This four-day 36-hole event is the annual member-guest event of the club, whose golf course lies on the hills of Pardo in the southern part of Cebu City.

Members of the tournament committee met the media yesterday in a press conference held at Dolce Coffee Shop in Nivel Hills.

The club members are paired with players from other golf clubs around the country and also several players from sister clubs of Alta Vista in Malaysia and Singapore.

At stake for a hole-in-one are a Kia Picanto for Kia-Cebu, a lot from Santa Lucia Realty, a trip ticket from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours, and hotel accommodation/gift certificates from Marco Polo Plaza Cebu and Marco Polo Prince Hong Kong in partnership with Philippine Airlines.

There are also a motorcycle from Norkis Trading Corporation, one limited edition Meister Ambassador’s Watch, and an LG 32” LCD television from Rizgolf Marketing.

Renato Dychangco Jr., the club’s chairman of the board, said that this year a record 51 sponsors have come forward to support the signature event.

He was joined by tournament chairman Vicente ‘Inting’ Go and golf chairman and club treasurer Ramon Sebastian.

“We’re very happy that we attracted more sponsors this year despite the recession, people are still supporting our event.

“This tournament has been very successful and we’re looking forward to another successful tournament this year with a growing number of participants,” said Dychangco, during the press conference.

Also present during the press conference were Atty. Ellie Espinoza, Vicente Colina, Rod Señido, Ed Sy, John Uy, Rolly Santos, Dondon Arquiza and Nimrod NL Quiñones.

The tournament will be using the Modified Stableford Scoring System and teams will play two rounds within the four-day period.

There will be prizes for the overall team lowest gross and overall team lowest net.

The top three teams for three handicap classes will also be receiving awards as well as the top three for the seniors’ division.

Giveaways for the tournament are a pair of Nike Power Player III EU Golf Shoes and a shoe bag.

Only those who will play would be entitled to the giveaways.

Dychangco also stressed that while the tournament is meant for fun, it is also setting aside money for a good cause.

“It’s not all the good times that the businessmen and executives in Cebu are doing but we also give charitable help to the institutions who need help out of the proceeds that we could get from this tournament,” he said.
