Pumar brothers shine in Mandaue boxing

- Caecent No-ot Magsumbol -

CEBU, Philippines - The Pumar brothers Marvin and Marco clobbered their respective foes to give Talisay City a 2-1 win-loss record in the 4th Mayor Jonas Cortes Cup Amateur Boxing at the Park at the Mandaue Plaza Square.

Marvin silenced Vicente Seos-e, Jr. of Cabancalan in their 23 kgs. battle, while Marco overpowered Philippine-Australian Boxing Club's Raymund Rama in the 38 kgs. class.

The other Talisay entry bowed to Mabolo's Joepauljohn Tanudra in the 26 kgs. division.

Tanudra's teammate Christian Bacolod outsmarted Cabancalan's Jimboy Mayang, while Talamban's Raul Yu beat Jicky Malupay, also from Cabancalan, in the 53 kgs. category.

Polid Banal and Mardie Muaña made sure not to suffer the same fate as the other Cabancalan bets.

Banal, however, won at the expense of teammate Ferdie San Roque in the 48 kgs. division, while Muaña silenced University of the Visayas' Robert Labanza.

On the other hand, Escalante's 36 kgs. bet El Kevin Nemenzo and Sultan Kudarat's 46 kgs. entry Mervin Lulu prevailed over Raul Tarona and Jeffrey Stella, respectively.

Two out-of-towners in 52 kgs. Richard Barrios of Bais and 38 kgs. Raffy Banua of Zamboanga also emerged victorious over Gerald Suico of Maguikay Mandaue City and Nelson Sandal.

Ramil Castañares of Talamban completed the winners' list after overpowering Jeshue Formentera of Banilad in the 38 kgs. class. (FREEMAN)
