Cacoy Doce Pares seminar, world tourney set

CEBU, Philippines - An estimated 130 to 150 ekrimadors from eight countries, including host Philippines, are coming to Cebu to participate in the Cacoy Doce Pares World Federation international martial arts seminar and workshop and eskrima championships from June 6-10 at the City Sports Club at the Cebu Business Park.

The participants will include not less than 50 foreigners.

The foreign eskrimadors will come from Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the Unites States.

There are four clubs coming from Cebu City and another four clubs from Cebu Province.

At least 12 clubs from other parts of the country are sending delegates to the event billed as “The Grand Gathering 2012.”

More than 40 individuals will be inducted into the 3rd Doce Pares Hall of Fame ceremony.

Radio station dySS Super Radyo and dyRT FM Nindota Ah, have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Cacoy Doce Pares to take charge of the publicity of the event giving its all-out support for radio plugging and talk shows during their radio programs.

Susan Aliño, dySS station manager signed the MOA with Doce Pares Supreme Grand Master Ciriaco “Cacoy” Cañete at the Ruby  2 Room of the Golden Prince Hotel and Suites along Archbishop Reyes  Avenue last Wednesday.

After the MOA signing, Aliño said “I feel this is a very noble effort but it’s so sad that Filipinos know only very little what is arnis and most of the young children don’t even know what is this.”

When asked why she and dySS decided to back-up Doce Pares, Aliño said “this is our own little way of helping the Filipino martial arts as we want to help bring back the heritage and culture of the Filipinos.” (FREEMAN)
