X-Men bags Merida volleyball title
CEBU, Philippines - Team X-Men blasted the Avengers in straight sets in the all-Cebu finals of the Merida Mayor’s Cup Volleyball Open Championship yesterday at Merida Sports Complex in Leyte.
The University of San Carlos (USC)-manned X-Men thrashed the Avengers, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.
Among those who steered X-Men to crowning glory were Dennis Sepulveda, Kennith Bensig, Bonvie Estrera, Mark Abut, Ryan Abut and Alvin Bacaling.
X-Men, thus, reaffirmed its mastery over the Avengers, which it pummeled during the elimination round, 25-14, 25-17.
The Avengers, on the other hand, was composed of USC’s second stringers in Earven Gallegos, Harvey Bernil, Jerone Maestre, Ryan Fuentes, Clyde Flores, Junpit Escasinas and Leon Gaspar.
In the battle for third, Team Broncho clobbered Isabel, 25-19, 25-18, 26-24.
Aside from trophies and medals, Team X-Men went home P20,000 richer, while the second and third placers pocketed P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.
The event was among highlights of Merida's annual fiesta in honor of its beloved patron San Isidro Labrador. - THE FREEMAN
