SSI annihilates Cebu Global in CCSC E-League

CEBU, Philippines - The SSI Pure Science recorded what is by far the most lopsided victory in the Sun Cellular-presented 8th CCSC E-League Basketball Tournament after it dumped the Cebu Global Warriors by 38 points, 67-29, last Monday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym in Ayala Business Park.

In the other games, Team 1&1 Marauders outlasted JP Morgan Chase and Co. Bankers, 71-63, while the Aegis Vipers stormed past the Qualfon Knights, 73-51.

After launching an early assault, 16-7, SSI left the hapless Cebu Global groping for form the rest of the way. The Pure Science closed the first half with a 36-15 edge and then raided the final two quarters in dominating fashion, 31-14, for the walk-in-the-park triumph.

Underscoring their balanced offensive, 13 SSI players hit the scoring chart led by Ryan Peliño with 17 points on top of three rebounds.

In sharp contrast, only four players scored as Cebu Global tallied the league's all-time mark for the lowest points made in a single game.

Mark Louise Gellez, on the other hand, topscored for 1&1 with 19 points followed by Raymaond Basañez with 17 markers, five rebounds and three assists. Rengie Cabanday led JP Morgan Chase with 13 points, while Marvin Roma and Giovanni Arnaiz connived for 21 markers in a losing cause.

Not to be outdone, Clifford Amarado pumped in 20 points, Dean Junber Escalon added 14 and Ryan Veloso had 13 points, six rebounds, three blocks and two assists in Aegis' 22-point demolition of Qualfon.

The Aegis Vipers were only ahead by eight at the break, 29-21, but staged a searing 24-16 run in the third canto to break the game wide open heading into the payoff period, 53-37.

Jopher Regidor was the lone double digit scorer for Qualfon with 11.
