Gacasan, Arnado rule Victor Uy caddies' golf tourney

CEBU, Philippines - Joseph Gacasan bagged the lowest gross honors in the men’s division of the 2nd Victor Uy Memorial Caddies Golf Tournament played last April 16 and 23 at the Cebu Country Club.

Gacasan fired nines of 36 to shoot even-par 72 strokes.

Lano Alfeche had a net score of even-par 72 strokes to bag the lowest net honors. He shot a gross 73.

In the pro and semi-pro division, Rolando Pila fired a gross 73, which was also his net score as he carries a zero handicap, to win the title. Runner-up honors went to Iluminado Besares with a net score of 73 off a gross 77.

The class A plum went to Lito Basak with a net score of 74 off a gross 85 while first runner-up was Jar-R Antipuesto with a net score of 75 off a gross 84 and second runner-up was Bernie Arinque also with a net score of 75 strokes.

Tirso Rio topped class B with a net score of 79 while first runner-up was Jose Heredia with a net score of 80 and second runner-up also with a net 80 was Ruben Sanchez.

In the seniors’ class, Ben Arinque fired a net score of 73 to bag the crown. First runner-up was Luciano Cabajar with 75 while second runner-up was Jerry Arco with 76 beating Willy Lagason in the countback.

The Blind Callaway handicapping system was used in the tournament.

Women’s Division

The lowest gross honors for the distaff side went to Renafe Arnado with 89 strokes.

Mariestila Borres fired the lowest net with 79 strokes off a gross 93.

The class A title went to May Panog with a net score of 79 edging Anabelle Jabonillo in the countback.

Jabonillo settled for the first runner-up honors while second runner-up was Lourdes Gofredo with a net score of 80 strokes beating Editha Porcia in the countback.

Lovelyn Taala tooped class B with a net score of 85 pulling past Elenita Obiera in the countback.

Obiera took the first runner-up honors while second runner-up was Deling Murallon with 86 strokes.

The class C plum went to Caring Bernales with a net score of 86. First runner-up was Marites Arinque with 87 while second runner-up was Charito Gacasan with a net score of 90 strokes pulling past Madelen Escorial, Chona Chan, and Jenny Velasquez in the countback.

The event, which is backed by relatives and family of Victor Uy drew a total field of 110 males and 80 females.— (FREEMAN)
