Don Bosco Alumni rules men's open

CEBU, Philippines - Don Bosco Technology Center's United Alumni FC upended Danao FC, 1-0, to claim the men's open championship of 1st BRO National Football Festival last Sunday night at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Don Bosco’s vast experience and cohesiveness paved the way for Richard Canedo to deliver the game-clinching goal.

The Bosconians also grabbed four other titles plus three runner-up finishes, making them the most dominant squad in the three-day event organized by ERCO Samareño spearheaded by Engineers Keith Buyco and Rodney Orale and coach Glenn Ramos.

Don Bosco 2002-A beat Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 1-0, via penalty shootout for the players 9 title, while DBTC 5-A outlasted sister-team DBTC 2000, 3-0, in the players 10 final. Don Bosco also took the boys 15 and 16 crowns after prevailing over SHS-AdC, 1-0, and Cebu International School, 1-0, respectively.

SHS-AdC nabbed the boys 11 plum with a 1-0 triumph over Don Bosco’s Team 5, while Team CVIRAA downed   Don Bosco Silver Hawk in the boys 12 final.

Looc FC outgunned DBUFC for the top spot in the boys 18 category, while the CVIRAA elementary squad took home the boys 13 title after beating San Carlos City FC, 1-0. CVIRAA's secondary bets, however, lost to Antony FC, 2-3, in the boys 17 finale.

Hiroshi FC, on the other hand, claimed a double victory through the executive 35 and 40.

Hiroshi outlasted San Roque Football Club, 3-1, in the executive 40 and then tamed Sabado Gang, 1-0, in the executive 35 final.

Canduman FC lorded it over in the players 8 category after crushing SHS-AdC, Lahug Elementary School lorded it over in the players 7 with a 2-1 conquest of San Roque, while the visiting CMU-Bukidnon went away with the boys 14 crown after streaking past Mandaue Technical Institute.

Tsuneishi reigned supreme in the Inter-BPO category with a 2-0 shutout of Timex, while SRFC ruled the ladies open division after frustrating the University of San Carlos, 2-1, via penalty shootout. (FREEMAN)
