Park tops Alta Vista April golfest

-

CEBU, Philippines - Teenager David Park may not have reached the legal driving age yet in the Philippines, but this young man surely can drive his balls straight and nail those fairways shots and sink his putts.

Park bagged the lowest gross honors for class A in last weekend’s April Monthly Medal at Alta Vista Golf and Country Club in Pardo, this city shooting a gross score of seven-under-par 65 strokes.

He fired an eagle-aided three-under-par 32 strokes on the front nine making birdie on the par-4 4th then nailing his third shot on the par-5 7th for an eagle.

In the back nine, Park birdied the tough par-5 10th but made bogey on the downhill 11th, which was the only blemish on his scorecard.

He recovered from that setback with birdies on the 12th, 14th, 17th, and 18th to close at four-under-par 33 for the homestretch.

Henry Chu had a net 66 strokes to bag the lowest net plum for the premiere handicap class. Runner-up honors went to Alex Yeo with 73 strokes.

The lowest gross for class B went to Zen Pastoriza shooting nines and 41 and 39 for a total of 80 strokes. He won the title after beating Richard Lim the countback by virtue of a better score on the back nine.

Lim settled for the lowest net title with 67 while runner-up honors went to Cristino Lim with 71.

Nelson Rosales had the lowest gross for class C with 86 strokes.

The lowest net trophy went to Philip Huang with 70 strokes while runner-up honors went to Richard Li with 71.

Razy Razon took the lowest gross plum for the seniors’ division shooting four-over-par 76 strokes end edging club treasurer Ramon Sebastian in the countback by virtue of a better score on the back nine.

Lowest net honors went to Jun Zosa with 65 strokes while runner-up honors went to club director Vicente Go with 67 beating Rolando Alberto and Lino Dagus in the countback.

Rolly Santos shot the best gross for the super seniors category (65 years old and above) with 87 strokes. The lowest net honors went to Rod Señido.

In the distaff side, Park Chung Ja bagged the lowest gross plum with 85 strokes while junior golfer Joan Hortelano had the lowest net with 69 strokes.

Kim Sung Ki won the guest division title with Mario Bancale and runner-up.

A special prize went to Alvin Suarez for nearest to the pin on No. 6 landing his tee shot 10 feet and one inch from the cup. Jack Lee had the most accurate drive on the 11th landing 2 feet from the center line.—NLQ (FREEMAN)
