Pages eases into semis of Head-Smart netfest

CEBU, Philippines - Jana Pages leads the cast of semifinalists in the girls 16 division of the 2012 Head-Smart Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit at the Cebu International Tennis Centre, Inc. (CITCI) courts in Laray, Consolacion.

Pages showed superior skills in a masterful 6-2, 6-0 demolition of Nathalie Alipe, 6-2, 6-0. She will be joined into the penultimate round by Alyssah Mae Bornia and Krissiane Kintanar, who outsmarted Edel Donaire and Shane Villareal, 6-4,7-5, respectively.

In the girls 14, Zethley Mae Alferez and Kristine Renee Salimbangon enjoyed a bye in the semifinals.

Alferez will face next Cherry Mae Toledo, who upended Villareal, 6-1, 6-2.

In the boys division, a bunch of new faces showed up, making it anybody’s game for most of the age-group categories.

In the unisex 10-under, John Ternate, Gabriel Trazo, Nonito Pepito and Eric Longakit rolled into the semifinal stage.

Ternate defeated Rupert Tortal, 6-3, 6-1, Trazo edged out Elizabeth Abarquez, 7-5, 6-3, Pepito overpowered Carl Median, 6-1, 6-1, while Longakit tamed Carl Pepito, 6-0, 6-1.

The other classes are still in the quarterfinal round including Carlo Balundo and Heart Sotto in the boys 12, Fernando Argueles, Earl Cagampang, Slame Sotto, and Joshua Escobia in the boys 14 and Edward Alumina, Rodolfo Barquin and Reun Andrew Hibionada in the boys 18.

Mario Florido and Roy Cortes, on the other hand, hurdled their first round assignments against Francis Pepito, 7-5, 6-1 and Dave Toledo, 6-4, 6-4.—(FREEMAN)
