CCSC summer sports program kicks off April 9

CEBU, Philippines - Over 20,000 kids from different barangays will troop to 16 public school gyms starting on April 9 for the summer program of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC).

Compared to last year, CCSC chairman Edward Hayco said the number of participants has been doubled this time mainly because of their extensive grassroots development program.

In a meeting the other day attended by hundred public school sports coordinators and volunteer coaches, Hayco challenged all of them to ensure the success of their forthcoming activity.

“Last year was an experimental grassroots program and the doubled number of participants is very overwhelming. The teachers and sports coordinators welcomed our challenge with confidence. We asked for their commitment since they will take charge mostly of everything. The level of enthusiasm among them was very high,” said Hayco.

The multi-event undertaking offers tennis, taekwondo, arnis, archery, baseball, softball, dancesport, table tennis, sepak takraw, chess, boxing, beach volley, athletics, badminton, basketball and volleyball.

The third edition of Cebu Fest, now dubbed as the “Great Sports Festival and Expo Cebu”, will serve as the culminating activity of the training program.

CCSC executive director Brando Velasquez said the student-athletes who joined the training will be assessed through the sports festival slated from May 17 to 20 at the South Road Properties (SRP) and other venues in the Queen City of the South. — (FREEMAN)
