"Ground and Pound VI" purely MMA showdown

CEBU, Philippines - MMA (mixed martial arts) disciples could look forward to another highly entertaining show as the Yaw-Yan ArDigma Martial Arts Federation, Inc. will stage the sixth installment of the 'Ground and Pound' series dubbed as ‘Invincible’ set on July 14 at the Cebu Coliseum.

But unlike the past editions of the tournament sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), no kickboxing matches will be included as it will focus only on the MMA discipline.

“After two years, we will have another sequel to the Ground and Pound series. We are all excited because unlike in our previous events, we will go all Mixed Martial Arts this time,” said Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu founder and Vis-Min director Master Benigno ‘Ekin’ R. Caniga, Jr. in a press conference the other night at the Yaw-Yan ArDigma Headquarters.

Aside from promoting MMA in Cebu and teaching individuals an effective means of self-defense, Caniga said they also aims to propagate the other martial arts discipline as a way of nurturing one's physical well-being.

“It can't be denied that the popularity of MMA in Cebu is growing. This time, we are going to have a tournament that will be participated in by elite fighters from the Visayas. We also have a guest team from Malaysia,” said Caniga.

Aside from host Yaw-Yan ArDigma, the other contending clubs are Yaw-Yan Musang and Durex Dragon Kickboxing Club of Lapu-Lapu City, Soma Kickboxing Club of Mandaue City, Negros Top Team, Butuan Extreme, MUMA Boxing Club of Cagayan De Oro City and Tenbudo MMA from Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Yaw-Yan ArDigma formally launched its Summer Clinic that will start on April 2 at the Yaw-Yan Headquarters located at the 4th floor of Coast Pacific Downtown Center just across the UC-Main Campus along Sanciangko Street, this city.

Among the courses offered are arnis, boxing fitness, Yaw-Yan combat for self-defense, Yaw-Yan ArDigma system and MMA.
