Mayor Duke pushes Li-loan as sports hub

- AJ de la Torre -

CEBU, Philippines - Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco ‘Duke’ Frasco is excited that his town is once again hosting the Xterra Off-Road Triathlon this weekend.

Frasco took part in the relay event of the competition last year where his team finished third. He took care of the 10-k trail run.

He is very thrilled that his town has been given another opportunity to host the event, which brings together some of the best in the world.

He said that the town of Liloan offers a good venue for sports tourism with its beaches and bike trails.

The proximity of Liloan from the center of the province makes it ideal for big sporting events like the Xterra.

Aside from the Xterra, the municipality also hosted the Columbia Eco Trail Run last month in the mountain Barangay of Mulao.

Frasco said that the trails in Liloan are challenging and requires concentration and skill from the participants.

This is the reason, he said, why event organizers are looking at Liloan as venue for such events.

Frasco said that they will continue to prepare for more events in an effort to make the town a hub for sports.

Liloan also draws a lot of enthusiasts for skim boarding, fishing, and swimming. Frasco said that they will have more to offer soon.

Currently, Frasco said that they strongly promoting health in the town as part of their advocacy, starting off with their employees in the municipal hall.

“We have our less is more program. We weigh our employees at the start and end of the year. For every kilo they lose, they get P1,000.” (FREEMAN)
